The First Tee of Greater Austin (TFTGA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit youth development organization dedicated to providing young people with educational programs to build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. Founded in 1999, the chapter has served thousands of area youth through educational programs designed to build character, promote healthy choices and develop positive mentorship. At The First Tee of Greater Austin, golf is a compelling vehicle for young people to learn life-enhancing values like goal-setting, interpersonal skills, resilience skills and self management. Members of the community help deliver this by serving as (volunteer) coaches for a variety of programs. A coach in our programs doesn't have to be a golf professional - but someone who cares about helping youth to stay "on course." In 2013-14, the Greater Austin Chapter served more than 10,000 students in the Austin community through its after-school programs, camps, National School Program sites and outreach efforts. The chapter currently maintains over 100 active volunteers - who serve as coaches and also help the organization administratively by aiding in fundraising efforts throughout the year.
